‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’ Announced For July 2017

Update from Editor Peter Sciretta: At the end of the Marvel Studios presentation at 2014 San Diego Comic Con International, Marvel head Kevin Feige played a video of Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt and director James Gunn announcing that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on July 28th 2017.
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn will return to write and direct the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. The entire Guardians cast is also expected to return. James tweeted out the following after the presentation:
So here is what the Marvel Studios release calendar now looks like: Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015 Ant-Man on July 17, 2015 Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016 Untitled July 8, 2016 (which we believe will be Doctor Strange since that film has a director attached, putting it next in line). May 5, 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on July 28, 2017 November 3, 2017 July 6, 2018 (Could be Avengers 3, because it was three years between the first and second films) November 2, 2018 May 3, 2019 Here is the previous story from Germain Lussier: Last week, I asked if it would be able to let anyone else play with these characters, considering he was such an author of the first film.

I’m actually in a somewhat weird position because if the movie does well, then I’m gonna make the sequel. And if it does okay then, well, I’ve already been offered other movies but I can only do those other movies if I don’t do the sequel, so it’s a weird situation.
Guardians of the Galaxy ends with the declaration they’ll return so this isn’t a huge surprise in anyway. The bigger question is, when will the film be scheduled for release (especially considering Zoe Saldana’s Avatar shooting schedule) and who will appear. The first Guardians of the Galaxy his theaters August 1.
