Each day this week, we’re going to world premiere a brand new, never before seen showdown. Each showdown is based on the favorite movie of one of five /Film writers: myself, David Chen, Russ Fischer, Angie Han and, of course, Peter Sciretta. You’ll have one day to look at the showdown, read our explaination why it’s our favorite movie of all time, and then e-mail in your guess. Each day, out of those who get it right, two will randomly be selected and sent a free copy of The Great Showdowns by Scott Campbell.

Watching this film for the first time, everything just clicked. “Oh my god, they’re talking about a movie, and visually mimicing it.” “Oh my god, I love that game.” “I feel the exact same way.” “My friends and I have our own vernacular too.” On every level, this raw work from a first time screenwriter worked for me. I laughed, I related, I got excited and incredibly uncomfortable. The film simultaneously captures a specific time and place while teaching us timeless truths. Be confident, have fun, and everybody waits at least two days to call back a beautiful baby. Do you think it’s a coincidence this New York kid now lives in Los Angeles?
When I first saw this movie, I was at the age where things started to make sense. Not things like “2+2”; more like I finally had enough experience to understand why life is the way it is. Which ends up being the theme of the whole movie.
