Rumor: Will Spidey Meet Other Marvel Heroes In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’?

But as the Amazing Spider-Man franchise builds to the (rumored) introduction of the Sinister Six, Spidey could be in need of a little help. And he just might get it, judging by producer Avi Arad’s reaction when asked whether another Marvel superhero might appear in the next film. Hit the jump to see what he said.

Uh… I’d rather not answer that at this point. This is what the word ‘spoiler’ means. We want to always leave the audience with a couple of surprises. All of a sudden, you feel like, yeah, there’s a continuity. So if we say today how we go about it, we’d take away from the surprise of the movie.

Spidey himself is by far the most prominent superhero in the Spider-Man universe, but he does have a few allies. It could be that Arad is thinking of Felicity Jones’s Black Cat, who’s expected to appear in the upcoming sequel, or another lesser-known hero. The more intriguing, but far trickier, possibility is that the Hulk or the Human Torch will drop by Queens to say hello.

Whatever the case, Arad’s non-statement appears to fit with Marc Webb’s earlier comments about wanting to expand the Spider-Man universe. The director told press last month that The Amazing Spider-Man 4 “might not just be a Spider-Man movie.” If they’re building toward something more ensemble-based, it’s probably a good call to start beefing up that supporting cast now.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2, 2014.
